How to choose an architect? | |
So you have a plan – you are going to have a house built. You have probably thought through all the details as well as you can, maybe done some sketches but there is still one link missing – you have not consulted an expert. This is a very important part of the process, because an architect is the god in building – he knows everything there is to know about building – the right ways and possibilities of installing ventilation, electricity, structure, plumbing etc and of course has the aesthetic eye.
Choosing an architect is not buying milk. It is a research project and needs work. We have provided you with some basic pointers:
- the first thing to do is check the background of the architect. Find out if he is a member of the accredited architects association in your country;
- get to know the architect's former work – outside and in. Consult with the former clients of the architect about the architect's way of work and find out the pros and cons;
- ask the owners of houses you like about the architect who built it, maybe you are able to use him;
- You should decide on how much you are planning on spending and consult it with the architect to avoid future unpleasantness;
- Be sure to get all the contracts and designs in writing.
